[LE}– Uso de ‘barajar’

Adolfo Ipiña insiste en que el verbo barajar no equivale a considerar dos o más alternativas antes de tomar una decisión.

Lo siento, pero una acepción correcta es la dicha. La vemos en los diccionarios, pero sobre todo se encuentra en el ambiente.

Añado que el verbo barajar está muy bien empleado cuando hay elementos aleatorios, como en el juego de cartas. No hace falta que sean explícitas las dos o más posibilidades entre las que se tenga que escoger una. Basta con que haya dudas sobre una salida. Siempre se podrán barajar dos opciones: aceptarla o no aceptarla. Eso es lo que significa «barajar la posibilidad». Me parece una expresión acertada. La voz barajar da idea de mezcla, pelea, presencia de elementos diversos.

A man tells his wife that he’s going out to buy cigarettes. When he gets to the store he finds out it’s closed, so the guy ends up going to the bar to use the vending machine.

While there, he has a few beers and begins talking to a beautiful girl. He has a few more beers and he found himself in this girl’s apartment and having quite a pleasurable time. The next thing he knows is it was 3:00 o’clock.

—Oh, my god, my wife is going to kill me! —he exclaimed—. Quick give me some talcum powder!

The girl gets him some and he rubs it all over his hands. When he got home his wife is up waiting for him and she’s furious.

—Where the hell have you been!

He says,

—Well, to tell you the truth, I went into a bar, had a few drinks, went home with a beautiful blonde and I slept with her.

—Let me see your hands!—, she demands.

He shows his wife his powdery hands.

—Damn liar, you were out bowling again!
